We are delighted to announce that the official opening of Footsteps Pre-School at Glencorrib N.S. will take place on Friday 16th of June from 11am – 12pm.
The Pre-School room is currently being finalized and is set to be a really exciting, modern and fun place for children to attend. We can’t wait to see it all completed and to welcome all the new Pre-School children in September.
After the opening of the new Pre-School room, the pupils and staff of Glencorrib N.S will also raise their new Green Flag outside.
This promises be an exciting and enjoyable day for all involved.
All families and members of the wider community are welcome to attend.
Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Looking forward to welcoming you all on the day.
Congratulations to Jonathan and Kevin who made their First Holy Communion yesterday, Sunday the 14th of May.
A lovely day was had by all.
Well done boys!
We were delighted to hear that two of our past pupils, Gary and Darren, were selected from Presentation College Headford, to compete in the Junior Irish Maths competition.
Gary and Darren were two of five pupils selected out of approximately 150 first years in Presentation College. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of them.
Well done and congratulations to both boys!
Yesterday, Eleanor, Leah and Isabelle from our Greenschools committee went with Múinteoir Jen to the Mcwilliam Park hotel in Claremorris to receive our third green flag.
The third flag is based on the theme of water and is attributed to all our hard work on reducing our water usage in our school and homes over the last two years.
There were lots of other schools there from Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim collecting their flags also. We had a really enjoyable day and are looking forward to raising our new flag later in June.
This week in the junior room we learned all about static electricity.
We rubbed balloons against our hair and were amazed at how the balloons then picked up bits of paper from the table and even gave us crazy hairstyles! It was great fun.
We have also been learning about how to take care of plants and have planted our very own “cress-heads”. We can’t wait to see them grow!
We got a great surprise today when local celebrity, Maria Walsh (Former Rose of Tralee), popped in to say hello!
Maria came along with Ann Hyland and Kathleen Shaughnessy to talk to us about the local Pioneers Association.
Maria also joined in with our football match at break time and really impressed us with her skills.
We really enjoyed her visit, what a lovely surprise for a Monday morning!
Ann Hyland also announced the winners of the Pioneers Association essay competition. Congratulations to Isabelle, Matt and Darragh who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in our school division. Isabelle also went forward to win 1st in the overall Ballinrobe division. A fantastic achievement. Well done Isabelle.
What a lovely sunny day out once again today! We picked a great day to get our summer garden started, including planting the vegetable patches and the window boxes.
We are almost gardening experts at this stage and we thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in today.
We are looking forward to watching all the vegetables and lovely new flowers sprout over the next couple of months.
We just had to take advantage of the lovely sunny weather this week, so we spent some time in the school vegetable garden this morning. We had a great time picking lots of yummy rhubarb.
We were amazed at how much the rhubarb had sprouted over the last couple of months. Everyone got several stalks to bring home for their families.
Glencorrib village will be full of the delicious aroma of rhubarb tarts this evening. Yum!
This year we have started a new initiative in our school – ‘Student of the Month’, which is aimed at encouraging a hard-working, helpful and positive atmosphere in our school.
This is a monthly award which will be presented to one chosen pupil at the end of each month.
The award will be presented to the pupil who is working the hardest, always trying their best, displaying kind and helpful behaviour, being polite and mannerly towards others and who helps to create a happy and positive atmosphere around our school on a daily basis.
This month we have chosen Jason as our ‘Student of the Month’. Jason received a medal for his wonderful achievement and was presented with the ‘Student of the Month’ trophy which he will display on his desk for the month of May.
Congratulations and well done to Jason on his well deserved award!
