We have had a lovely week here in Glencorrib N.S completing lots of nice Christmas activities.

Both our classrooms made their own little Christmas Trees using different art and craft materials.

Today, we had great fun as we all visited ‘Footsteps’ for a little Christmas Party with all the Pre-School children.

We would like to wish all our pupils and families a very ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2018’. We will see you all back in Glencorrib N.S. in the New Year!

Yesterday morning, the senior room watched a live stream of the winter solstice which was being broadcast from Newgrange.

As we waited eagerly for sunrise to see if it would illuminate the passage and chamber at Newgrange, some of the boys and girls in Múinteoir Lorraine’s class played us some songs on their musical instruments.

We were all very impressed by all the musical talent that we have here in the school including guitar players, fiddle players, tin whistle players and lots of lovely singers.

Some of our daily ‘Advent Calendar’ activities have been to go to the Pre-School and read a story for them.

This has been a real hit with both the pupils of Glencorrib N.S and Footsteps Pre-School. The older boys and girls have really enjoyed getting the opportunity to read stories for the younger children, and likewise the boys and girls in Footsteps loved having the older children visit them.

Reading to younger children is an activity that can be a great help to pupils by increasing their reading confidence and fluency while also boosting their expressive reading skills. In turn, it is also very important for the Pre-School children to watch and listen to the older children read, not only does it inspire their imagination and vocabulary development but also provides them with a role-model for their own learning.

As these reading sessions have been such a success, we hope to make them a weekly activity after Christmas!

Have a look at our wonderful actors who took part in our Christmas play entitled “Lights, Camel, Action” on Thursday the 14^th of  December, in the Glencorrib Community Centre.

Thanks to all the children who worked so hard to provide such a hilarious and entertaining performance.

A special thanks to all who helped the children with their costumes – they looked fantastic!

Finally, thanks to all who attended the play and who generously supported our raffle on the night.

A wonderful night was had by all!

Our pupils are all really busy preparing for their Christmas Play. They have been working so hard that today a very special visitor dropped in to say hello! All our boys and girls were super excited to meet Santa in school! Have a look at some pictures from his visit.

The Glencorrib N.S Christmas Play “Lights, Camel, Action!” will take place in the Community Centre on Thursday 14^th December at 6pm.

All members of the community are welcome to attend. A Christmas Raffle will also be held on the night. We hope to see you there!

Today we saw the first sign of Christmas at Glencorrib N.S.

As the children arrived at school this morning they received a lovely surprise as there was a new advent calendar hanging up on their school bus. Each day a new child will get to open a stocking! As you can imagine there was great excitement all around!

Later in the day, the pupils of 6th class put up and decorated the Christmas Tree and also decorated our school garden with some lights.
