Today we celebrated World Book Day.
We had a very special visit from Gemma McLoughlin, who is an author from Ballina, Co.Mayo. Gemma showed us all how to create a book from pen to print including storyboard creation, character building and story development. She also kindly read us an extract from her collection of books ‘Little Red Head’.
Also, as part of ‘World book Day’ we all dressed up as our favourite book character. We have all been busy bees over the last couple of weeks making our own costumes, with a little help from mums and dads! We really enjoyed dressing up and I think everyone will agree that all our costumes are fantastic!
Well done to everyone for making a tremendous effort. The judges had a very difficult time deciding on the winners, but congratulations to:
1st Place – Brendan as Gimli from ‘Lord of the Rings’
2nd Place – Ciara, Aoife & Dara as Mr. Fox, The Chicken and Farmer Bunce from Fantastic Mr. Fox
3rd Place – Laoise as Alice in Wonderland & Kayleigh & Ruth as Little Red Riding Hood & The Granny

Many thanks to Lucasz who visited us on Wednesday for an energy workshop as part of the SEAI education programme.
Lucasz told us all about energy, including how we can save energy. We also carried out lots of fun and interesting experiments.
We really enjoyed the workshop. Have a look at some photos from his visit.
Many thanks to Mervyn, a fire officer with Mayo County Council, who popped in last week to talk to us about fire safety.
Mervyn told us all about a lot of very important fire safety rules and what to do in the event of a fire. He also let us try on some of his fire fighter uniform!
We really enjoyed his visit.
This year our school has been taking part in Céilí Ukulele which is an exciting music programme for schools, offered by Music Generation Mayo.
Every Wednesday a tutor from Music Generation visits our school to teach us the ukulele.
Our senior room have really been enjoying the fun of learning and performing music together.
On Thursday we held our ‘Action Day’ for our Green Schools’ travel flag.
There was great excitement in the morning as everyone who travelled to school by walking, cycling or carpooling was greeted with a delicious breakfast on their arrival!
Throughout the day, we completed lots of travel and climate action related activities including designing our own shoes in the junior room and the senior room recycled and redesigned their old shoes.
In the evening, we held a ‘Climate Action’ themed quiz using the ipads.
The excitement for Christmas has really been building here in Glencorrib N.S.
Millie and Eleanor did a fantastic job decorating the Christmas tree and our whole school Advent calendar has been generating lots of Christmas cheer!
Both classrooms have been busy completing lots of Christmas art, including some beautiful Christmas wreaths.
We would like to wish all our pupils and families a very ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2020′. We look forward to seeing you all back in Glencorrib N.S. in the New Year!
Have a look at our wonderful actors who took part in our Christmas play entitled “I’m Gonna Shine” .
We had a fantastic evening and everyone really enjoyed taking part.
Well done to all the children, they put in a fantastic effort over the last number of weeks.

Thank you to Garda Monaghan who popped in this morning to chat to us all about the importance of staying safe over the Hallowe’en break.
He was very scared of all our spooktacular costumes!
Wishing you all a very happy and safe Hallowe’en.
